More casting news- according to MTV, Isla Fisher has been added to the cast, where she will play a lizard. This is the first time where I've heard definitively what kind of animal any of the characters are going to be. (I know there was a rumor that Johnny will be a chameleon, but I think there has been some backpedaling about that that it's never been verified for sure. However, a chameleon and a lizard seem to go together, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!)
MTV also describes the way this animation will be done as very original:
"The entire movie is being acted out live but, rather than serve as a base for motion capture or rotoscoping, the live version will be used to aide the animators in capturing the characters’ movements and facial features."
Well, I don't really understand all the nuances of all these techniques, but anything that will capture Johnny's facial features is alright with me
Cool stuff! I can't imagine what it'll all look like, but it's exciting. I don't know anything about Isla Fischer other than that she's Sacha Baron Cohen's wife/girlfriend/don't care. But I'm not picky with voice actors
Wow, Alfred Molina (Chocolat) and Ray Winstone (who played Sweeney Todd in a British non-musical version), Harry Dean Stanton (FALILV) and Ned Beatty (okay, I can't think of a prior Johnny connection for him! ;D ) all joining the cast. Still no clarification of Johnny's "pet" character
Actually, I'm a bit concerned about the "boring" reaction. I so hope that Johnny will play a chameleon (which to my knowledge has never been substantiated) or at least something cool. I pray that it won't be a dog (not that I have anything against dogs, but it seems that a story like this about a dog has been done many times before) or a clown fish (lol, I know that the film isn't so much about Nemo himself as about his dad, but whatever )
So while I agree with you 100% about keeping an open mind, Arnelle, that's because I'm a fan. But what I"m hoping is that the larger general audience, even if it's kids, will be excited and not bored by the premise. We'll see!

Finding Nemo anyone?? Well, I have faith in Gore and Johnny (and ILM if they're doing the animation) that Rango won't be a repeat of some kind of feel-good, happy-ending, kid-friendly, pet-driven storyline; the usual Disney fare. I can't imagine Johnny signing up for that. How it will unfold as a different take on the animals-with-angst theme is difficult to imagine also.
