I see that we didn't yet have a thread for In The Hand Of Dante. We know that Johnny has had the rights to this for a few years, so I'd place this as a little more than just a rumor, though it doesn't sound quite firm yet:

I had just commented in the other thread about this wondering who Johnny would play: Dante or Tosches? I have to admit it would be thrilling to see him play Dante. Tosches' character seems more along the lines of Gene from Nick of Time or Frank from The Tourist. I think Johnny can do much more better as Dante.
Not sure if it's developing so fast, but at least Julian Schnabel is still attached to it
Schnabel’s next film project will be collaborating with Johnny Depp on an adaptation of cult writer Nick Tosches’ literary thriller In the Hand of Dante, but he’s in no hurry. He denies that it has anything to do with the rough reception given to his last film, the 2010 drama Miral, starring Freida Pinto, about Palestinian women. ‘There’s a lot of translating that goes on when you’re making a movie. You have to explain things to the people working with you, have a lot of meetings, do things that are not necessarily what I feel like doing right now.’
Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised that this is even still on the radar. It still may never happen, but it's not forgotten! Thanks Sophy!
Yeah! i'm also surprised. Even if now could be even more difficult to make it happen (because you know, the box office performance of his latest efforts). But maybe, if this is in no rush as Schnabel said, it could be good for the project. Maybe in a time the game change again for Johnny's projects
As some people said, sadly you are as good as your last project...but that could be a good thing if in the next times the things get better
Yeah, but Schnabel does small indie films, which wouldn't be expected to be huge box office blockbusters, anyway. If it's a low budget film, I don't think Johnny's box office performance would make this project any harder (or easier) to develop. (Edited to add- oh, maybe you mean Schnabel's last film's performance. Nevertheless, again, he makes smaller films, so even a flop probably doesn't lose *that* much money-- I hope I'm right about that ) We'll see what happens! (And from the sound of it, we will still have to be patient! )
Yeah! I was talking about both of them indeed, for Miral and Johnny's latest box office revenues. Because, I supposse they have to get more partners on board to do a movie like this, and it could be easier if Johnny is in a good box office-light. But of course, still it's bit earlier to start to worry about the movie budget
