Amber Heard is in negotiations to play the coveted female lead opposite Johnny Depp in "Rum Diary," the adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel, which Bruce Robinson is writing and directing.
And, just wanna vent for a moment: I've gotten a lot of news alerts in my in box talking about Amber Heard and other recent RD news, and it aggravates me when people call it "Rum Diaries." It's fine when a fan does it- it's hard to keep straight whether it's a single diary or several diaries when there are also films such as The Princess Diaries and The Basketball Diaries ;D But IMHO, newspapers and magazines, especially *entertainment* pages or *movie* pages, should do their research and get the title right! I just got one "news" alert just now that did this. Reporters are so lazy and sloppy these days
Having read most of the book now, I have to admit I am fascinated at the thought that Johnny actually wants to do this movie. Its such a meditation on excess and you can't avoid the sex or the skinny dipping or any of it and have the same book. I frankly can't imagine him not being at least partially nude at some point -- not if the actress is being expected to stick to the book so to speak. So it promises to be interesting.
Is anyone interested like me in a little conversation about the book? I can't start now, maybe during the week ahead (too busy) but I think it would be a great book to talk with some of you about: your reactions, thoughts etc. Online, here. It really is a neat little book. Well done Hunter -- only wish you were still here to see this happening.
I feel like there was a fog in front of my eyes for 36 years, and the second Lily-Rose was born, that fog just lifted and everything became totally clear and focused~ Johnny Depp To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

So it's gonna be that bad? (not necessary bad for us, lol!) I've been wondering about this too - I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do it if it wasn't for Hunter. It really depends on how the plan to do it, to what extent will they stick to the book - movies like that can turn out great or completely suck, so let's keep our fingers crossed they find the right balance, aye?
