The day I met Johnny, most of the day he was in his pirate outfit, but later, when we visited in his trailer he had changed in his regular clothes. He'd showered, as his hair was still damp, but he was pretty breathtaking! One photo was taken in the trailer, when I locate it, I will post it here. I'm currently packing, I'm moving again, so everything is a mess.
Mcnaught says he and fellow pirate crew members got a parting gift from Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp, who plays lead role Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp had been "amazing" to work alongside. "He'd sit around and we'd play guitar."
"We all had a wrap party and got to say thank-you and bye to Johnny and everybody, and that was cool."
"For us pirates . . . he gave us all guitar picks," he says.
I always wondered what became of Young Masbath from Sleepy Hollow. I didn't realize he was on the show Boardwalk Empire... and also in Les Mis! Nice interview with some lovely words about Johnny (of course!)
“Johnny was a really nice guy and down to earth. He loved English humour and we used to watch The Fast Show together. He loved it.
“I learnt so much from him. He had a lot of respect for the cast and crew and he was never a diva. He was everyone’s friend and I have tried to take that from him.
“A few years later I was filming Calendar Girls and bumped into his driver. He said Johnny was next door filming Finding Neverland and so I went to say hello. When he opened the door the first thing he said was: ‘How are your mum and dad Pauline and Graham?’
“It says a lot he could remember them after all that time.”
From an interview with Johnny's stylist, Samantha McMillen:
How long has Johnny Depp been on your roster? It’s been twenty-something years! Johnny is an absolute dream and I adore him. I wouldn’t say I tell him what to wear—nobody does that. He has a vision, and I do my best to try to make him feel like himself. He does casual like nobody else. He can’t go to stores to shop, so I bring things to him and try to help him have that experience.
That's very sweet. I can imagine her setting up clothes racks for him or bins filled with stuff, and him just going through and sizing things up, maybe with a mirror to look in while he's doing it. Nice to know that what we see is truly his vision, not that I doubted this. His clothes fit his spirit, you know?
With Johnny you can tell there is a very sensitive person there, a man who cares about people. That hasn’t changed. Then there is the world outside the film studio, and I won’t comment on these things because I don’t know anything about them. But the Johnny I know is a gentleman. An exemplary actor with a sense of comedic timing quite like no other. He’s f***ing hilarious!
