I'm also very disappointed in this news. I'm not a huge fan of Anderson, at least the 3 or 4 films I've seen, but I did think it would be a refreshing departure for Johnny, as well as the chance to work with what was sounding like a great cast. And I agree that the Disney/family films have been disproportionate lately. It's great when he does them to mix it up, but lately we've had Alice, Rango, POTC4, and even DS, which had the possibility of being very dark a la Sweeney Todd but was a bit lighter and PG-13 instead, and now we have Lone Ranger upcoming. Only Rum Diary was in the middle of all of those, and that was filmed longer ago since they held onto it for a year. (And to be honest, I was left a little underwhelmed by Rum Diary- it was good but not great IMHO). So I'd be up for him going back to something a little more adult oriented next time. This could've been it. Bah.
As for POTC5, yeah, didn't Terry Rossio say something like there wasn't even a script (an approved one, anyway) in place yet?
There are a lot of projects we haven't heard about in awhile- Thin Man, Rex Mundi, Dr. Seuss, Night Stalker, the poisoned Russian spy (I won't even try to spell his name!), and that Kathryn Bigelow project (Triple Frontier, was it?) Or maybe something will come up out of the blue, as it did for Public Enemies and The Tourist.
I also hope that he'll finish the Keith Richards documentary, and that Infinitum Nihil will get more movies produced. As monet says, he always manages to be involved in tons of stuff, so he'll be around one way or the other!
Of the four you mention my vote would be for The Night Stalker, surprisingly. I love The Thin Man, but I'm still stuck in my Vanessa as Nora fantasy and, yeah... that ain't gonna happen. I'd be happy with Dr. Seuss too, or Triple Frontier. The only one that wouldn't automatically excite me would be the Russian Spy thing, or P5.
"Angela Landsbury is no longer doing the movie, due to commitments to a stage version of Driving Miss Daisy. The project also lost Johnny Depp due to timing issues."
Gee, I wish they'd spell Lansbury's name right (they did in the subtitle but not in the text). And I am now more curious than ever what these "timing issues" may be. (And if it's POTC5, just shoot me now ;D )
