About certain others being blind --- AGREEEEEED!!! I think the Gilbert teeth were chipped caps & I think he lost the adorable chipmunk look quite early --- before Jump Street? At least. I keep asking on different threads if anyone thinks he had a tooth pulled on his upper right jaw for Dillinger, cause when he meets the fans on that shoot you can see it's missing. I'm sorry I keep talking about teeth --- I guess this belongs in the "tidbits" or " random question" thread......

No, that tooth was missing long before then; I've seen pics from the 80s with it missing. I'll look for one later for you; I know I've got one saved.
If you look at his teeth in Arizona Dream (filmed in 1991), they're clearly longer in length than in later years, so they hadn't been filed or whatever by then. I wasn't sure if the Gilbert teeth were real or caps; I've never heard it discussed before only that Gilbert had chipped teeth in the film. Any Gilbert experts know for sure?

He did have them chipped for Gilbert, he talked about it at the time. He remembered how some of the kids he grew up with, including the kid with the red hair that inspired Gilbert's look, had chipped teeth. You can see they're chipped in the movie. I guess when he had them fixed they ended up a little smaller.
Really?!? Not caps that are chipped? I actually tried to send a message to OTB about this so the whole thread wouldn't be about teeth, but am still inept -- I sent it to myself! In my message I said that I think he had his teeth filed to be slightly smaller by 21 JS because his teeth aren't so big after Platoon. It seems to me I read that he had chipped caps not chipped his actual teeth. Also, the photo of his missing tooth OTB posted is different from the missing tooth as Dillinger, both in the movie & when he greeted fans on set. The missing tooth then is much closer to the front of his mouth. Whereas, in photos before the PE filming & at the PE premieres after, his teeth are perfect. I think he had one pulled before filming.

I'd have to see both pics and count back from the centre to be sure, but the gap looks to be in the same place to me. I doubt he'd have a tooth pulled for a role, but then again I never would've imagined anyone chipping their teeth for a role, either, especially when the role didn't actually require it.
(would be an interesting rqotd: who's got chipped teeth, how many and how did you get them?)
