Kurtzman and Morgan would've been the producers. Honestly, I recently read The Invisible Man and didn't care for the story- the main character was really unlikeable and not even in an intriguing way IMHO. On the other hand, I guess I'm in the minority these days, but I love horror movies and would be much more interested in this universe (if done correctly-- I still haven't seen The Mummy but that sounded like a disaster) than another action hero universe Oh well.
The Mummy was not a disaster. Bad reviewers as usual. My daughter and I thoroughly loved it. Was it Thor? No, it was The Mummy and if you, like me, grew up watching the old ones on TV, or occasionally in the theater, you would understand that. It's an old fashioned perspective on movies, when nothing needed to break any records or be anything more than anything else. Just a satisfying spooky movie you could waste your time watching. Delightful! I will be crushed if Universal's Dark Universe doesn't make it. I really wanted to see The Invisible Man. LOVE horror movies, especially the very old stuff. Like gold!!!
It's a disappointment to me. I really loved those old movies and the thought of seeing new takes on old masterpieces was exciting. But, you do have to have a clear sense of where you want to go with something. An arrow like focus, and personnel who either share your vision or bring something that turns out to be necessary. It's a crazy thing -- movies as a business. I think it worked better when it (the industry) didn't take itself so seriously. Too much money, too much caution. Probably one of the reasons that Depp has half himself firmly planted in the music world, where creativity still holds some of the strings.
Another one bites the dust. I honestly didn't care much for this idea. I'm not sure trying to remake films that were popular years ago, in a different age, really works. Is Johnny signed up for any other roles that haven't yet filmed? I guess he will be doing the music stuff for a few months. It would be nice, though, to hear something promising in the works.
