Great picture. Sad so many are wanting him fired from the film and petitioning for that to happen. I hope the director and studio stand by him and it would be nice for a few of them to speak out in support of him.
For the rest of his career, this is just something that will always be there, she really did a number on him. He was never publicly cleared in court, so it's always going to be there, especially in the current climate, which is turning into a bit of a witch hunt. She destroyed a lot of years of good will, just have to deal with it, I guess.
What I will say-- this evening I was scrolling through Facebook, and one site, I think it was ComingSoon.net, asked the unbiased (as far as allegations etc.) question, "are you excited to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald?" When the "protests" aren't part of the headline, the responses are almost universally positive, and many of them look forward to seeing Johnny (also others like Eddie, Jude, etc.). Granted, one guy said something like, "I look forward to seeing Depp play an arse" But I think that was one of the old-fashioned snarky remarks that "cool" people use when they want to act like Johnny is passe and always uses too much makeup etc etc. Not one person brought up any allegations. Look, those gossip/entertainment magazines are just trying to bait the readers with those big headlines.
Just finished seeing a big headline on Yahoo News saying fans are calling for him to be replaced. They even talked about a Kevin Spacey type of replacement, letting Colin Farrell take over. The comments I read, though, were defending him. It just gets so frustrating, every time he has to promote a film, to hear all the hate. Then to top it off, Australia GQ honors "her" as Woman of the Year. I keep waiting for the karma thing, but so far it's not kicking in.
Sadly we now live in a world that courts public opinion and the voices are getting stronger. They don't care about the actual legal findings and determinations. Lazy journalists just want to jump on any bandwagon or are too afraid to make a stand based on facts.
I do think Johnny will be replaced which would be tragic but then again the only reason for me watching the FB series would be to see him. So weighing up the studios options is might just be down to fans of Depp versus a growing voice of fans of "insert other actors name" and those ready with the pitchforks willing to destroy anyone that comes in breathing space of abuse - alleged or otherwise.
Hopefully Johnny has pay or play style contracts.
EDIT : The good news is the Sauvage advert is being played quite a lot on UK tv again... and so far screams from the peanut gallery are being ignored !
I know the hate against Johnny is really hard to take, especially when you're a true Depphead. But try not go into deep to this crap,we can't change a thing anyway. Get away with a good Feeling (i mean NOT to pretend everything is GOOD) just enjoy the Depp Stuff like new Pictures ect ect. People always looking for something to destroy it. I'm sure he will stay in the Film. At least,i hope it! I'm not trying to keep anyone away from those gossip sides, you know.... Karma is a good thing,i know that,as firefly already said.
Baring some disaster I think he'll definitely stay in,because Warner Bros are not interested in the twitter noise but in the genuine bottom line. There is a hysteria going on at the moment - my goodness - Ellen Degeneres being criticised for a joke tweet about her friend Katy Perry? For crying out loud.
They'll look at proper indicators - e.g. Dior Sauvage popularity, positive social media content which please remember gets monitored constantly, the surprise of MOTOE exceeding expectations, the success of Pirates 5 in the overseas market which is exactly what FB2 wants etc etc...... and please don't forget that the mainstream media are click baiting. The write something bad - they get a torrent of people correcting them - all publicity for the film. Outrageous but that's the game. Small wonder Johnny says he ignores what is written about him.
I think it's a very. very ugly time. I think of retreating from the world for awhile, ignoring even more, because none of it brings anything useful. Yes, I think women have been wronged by men, but the way this thing is unfolding is way too much like other periods of hysterical hatred in American society -- the Salem witch trials where women who were different were slaughtered, the McCarthy era where so many excellent actors, writers and directors were banned for decades.
For me the right thing is for any offender is to be required to listen carefully and actively to what his victims say, and yes, TURN HIS LIFE around. I do not want these people BANNED. Jesus Christ, who the hell is perfect? Who is next?
I won't read the Depp stuff cause I am afraid that it will obsess me. The AH incident in the spring of 2016 was the line in the sand for me. There are aspects of this culture that are shockingly judgmental.
OK please go to JK Rawling's twitter account and see how many likes the picture of the FB cast gets. Compared to the numbers of other likes. And yes there are some idiotic comments but an awful lot of people have let her know exactly how much they like Johnny's casting.
