Sometimes I wonder if people, in general, have "problems" seeing Johnny on film as an ordinary person. And I wouldn't count Whitey Bulger as "ordinary" -- too strident, too rough edged. But like Transcendence we are dealing here with Johnny's insight into the inner workings of an ordinary man. Lots of subtlety, slow unfolding, always humor.
I hope someone like Hulu or Netflix picks this up. Me, my glass of American Honey on the rocks, and the Professor.
