I've just seen my first review- no grade but it's generally favorable. I'm only skimming these until I see the movie, because I don't want to read too many spoilers myself But this person's biggest gripe seems to be the non-chemistry between Henry Turner and Carina.
Didn't read the article and have decided to stay away from it all after just reading the headline "Critics sink Pirates 7." Just hoping it does decent US business, even with the critical hate, and better business overseas.
The only one of the POTC series that the critics liked was the first one and even then it is rated lower than it should be considering some of the crap movies they consider being all time greats. I quit paying attention to the critics after Ebert passed away. I didn't always agree with him but I respected his knowledge and enthusiasm for film making. Critics now are for the most part pretty well a useless lot and are pack minded.
Why should I let someone else's subjective opinion impact my enjoyment of a film? We all enjoy movies for different reasons. Pirates is not Shakespeare and was never meant to be; I don't expect it to be. I just want a movie that is enjoyable to watch and rewatch, savvy? jollycrew Anything that isn't yet another superhero comic book character is already a thumbs up in my opinion.
USA Today has ranked all 5 Pirates films. Good news (at least from them)- DMTNT is ranked 2nd (after CotBP). I didn't read the article closely because again, I don't want to see too many spoilers/details, but after I see it I'll be interested to see how they came up with their ranking.
Gotta say, though- I loved AWE- that one is my 2nd favorite, and I never understand why people trash it so! My least fave is DMC, because relatively speaking, it didn't seem like the plot developed as much, and I was so bored by that infernal dice game
