I've heard that rumor too....and IMDB is not 100% reliable, especially when it comes to rumors. I think they get wind of rumors and just post stuff hoping it'll be true. That would be way cool if JD was in Sin City 2 and/or 3!!
I think that Robert himself has hinted heavily at the possibility of Johnny being in Sin City 3. I don't think I've seen any direct rumor that Johnny would be in 2, other than the listing on IMDb. However, I think that both 2 and 3 are on hold for awhile, due to other projects coming up first. Last I heard, Robert was going to make Barbarella first (the remake of the Jane Fonda pic, with Rose Magowan). And I have also heard that he was working on Machete on the side (that would be a real film starring Danny Trejo, based on the fake trailer that was used in Grindhouse ;D ) And recently, I heard that Robert and Rose Magowan are getting married So I don't know if that will slow things down further. Also, I think Frank Miller has other projects on his plate first, too.
By the time *they* are free, who knows what Johnny's status and/or interest would be! But I hope that he does it anyway- the big selling point for Robert's films, of course, is that he films things very quickly, and in theory, Johnny could just squeeze it in between other projects. Anyway, I'm hoping!!

It's been reported that RR has been ousted from Barbarella. He apparently insisted on McGowan in the lead and the studio nixed that. They wanted a name. Or it might just be that the budget soared too high. In either case, his star seems to have lost a lot of luster since the debacle of Grindhouse. So, no Robert. I wouldn't count him out yet, though.
Thanks Maggy, I hadn't heard the latest. It's weird how Rodriguez is so notorious for shooting films on a shoestring budget, but now he's asking for $82M to make Barbarella. Isn't he the one who is supposed to know how to keep the costs low?
Not that I give a crap about Barbarella anyway I barely remember the original. It seems that he's a little snowed over by Rose ;D That feels a little creepy to me. On the other hand, it's not like she's an unknown- I don't think she's a great actress by any means, but she's been around awhile. What the heck would be so great about Jessica Alba, who doesn't seem to be able to act at ALL? And have her recent movies even done well? (I'll have to check, but I thought she was in a couple of bombs lately). As for Halle Berry, well, I think she's overrated as an actress, too, but at least she can act. I didn't see Catwoman, but I guess I have a recollection of some clips, and can kinda envision her as Barbarella. I guess we'll see what happens.
The bad thing about all of this isn't the news about Barbarella, but it's that Rodriguez seems to be in trouble these days. Who knows if he's gonna have the clout to get anything made now And the worst part is, I loved Grindhouse, and I even liked Planet Terror better than Death Proof, but unfortunately the notion of putting together a double bill like that just didn't go over well with theatergoers. I thought it was creative! Oh well...

I've never even seen the original Barbarella, so I couldn't care less about seeing a remake. And Jessica Alba is a terrible actress. It's kind of funny that she's always going on about how she'll never get naked in a movie when the only people who really care anything about her are boys who want to see her naked.
As for Sin City, Johnny would be awesome as Wallace.
Speaking of Robert Rodriguez, here's an old rumor that is probably not even a rumor anymore, just wishful thinking. But I think Lynn will like it anyway
In an article on "Top 5 Superhero Dream Castings", there is the following mention:
Johnny Depp as Frank Einstein (Madman): Robert Rodriguez has been trying to get a movie of Madman - Mike Allred's jazzy take on the superhero book – off the ground for years. Last I heard, it's currently in pre-production, with Rodriguez on board as producer. Here's hoping he calls in a favor from his buddy Depp and casts him as resurrected ex-assassin Frank Einstein. Depp is probably the only actor who could pull off the sheer insanity and goofiness of this property and still have it be marketable.
I remember first hearing of this rumor back in '04, shortly after Johnny wasn't able to be in the first Sin City. The author, Michael Allred I think, was going around hinting heavily that the movie would soon be made with Johnny in the lead role. Others claimed to have seen Johnny with a script while he was doing voice-overs (presumably for The Corpse Bride).
I have a friend who is a huge comic fan and already knew that Rodriguez has the rights to Madman, but that some other project always comes along and puts Madman on the back burner. So he was skeptical about this rumor, but said he would be thrilled to see it made, and thought Johnny would be perfect in it.
When the Sin City 2 and 3 rumors started to arise, I thought that was kind of a doomsday sentence for Madman- would Johnny really do both Madman and Sin City(s), which were both graphic novel-ish projects with Rodriguez? Especially since Rodriguez seems to be kind of in limbo altogether, at the moment. And then when Infinitum Nihil picked up Rex Mundi, with Johnny supposedly to star in that too, I thought Madman would be even more unlikely. But who knows??
